Guest blog from Vasilis Gkogkidis – GamFed’s Ambassador to Greece

My name is Vasilis Gkogkidis and I am from Thessaloniki, Greece. I am a gamification designer, speaker and trainer working full time for GAMIFICATION+. My undergraduate degree was in Computer Science from the University of Macedonia and I also have a Master’s degree in Business Management from the University of Brighton. I worked as a teacher for some years before moving to the UK to do my Master’s where I met Pete Jenkins during the Gamification for Business course that he teaches at the university of Brighton. It was there that I heard what gamification is for the first time and I was really interested to know as much as possible about it. At some point during this course Pete invited me to do an internship at GAMIFICATION+ over the summer that turned into a full-time job.

One of the things I am trying to do is spread the word of gamification in Greece, delivering talks at meetups and various other events. I am proud to have started the second meetup about gamification in Greece, in my hometown Thessaloniki and trying to set up a community of gamifiers. People are definitely interested and I can see gamification spreading here in the future. Greece needs innovative ideas like gamification and that’s why people are drawn to it. Greece has a vibrant start up ecosystem that I can see gamification being something that can help people innovate.

Upcoming events in Greece are the two gamification meetups in February 23rd in Athens where I will be the keynote speaker and present small gamification and how people can design it and February 28th in Thessaloniki where I will be the facilitator and the theme will be gamification in education. In terms of research, I am always writing new small gamification case studies for our blog and researching How Games Work where I analyse games and how gamification can get inspired by them.
