Conferences, big or small, bring people together who share a common goal and promote connectivity among attendees where you learn from others, improve your own skills and knowledge about your field as well as network and engage and have a vision of your surrounding competitors. Therefore, we gathered up the updated list of Gamification related events that’s not to be missed and hence we are already half year through you‘ll come to know some exciting events in 2019 too!


 1) Play Make Learn


When: 13-14 August, 2018

Where: Madison, WI

What it’s about: The Play Make Learn (PML) Collective stemmed from a collective interest in creating an innovative conference to promote play and learning research, industry, and practice. PML is situated at the crossroads of game-based learning scholarship and design, drawing together leading academics and creators to promote and develop progressive teaching pedagogies.

True to its name, Play Make Learn offers content that aligns with the pedagogies that the conference is intended to promote. Attendees will have the opportunity to get hands-on with games and game systems, as well as attend maker labs and game jams that will supplement and expand on session content. Given this “roll up your sleeves” approach, PML is a great opportunity to learn about progressive pedagogies by trying them out for yourself.

2) GEMEINSAM ZUKUNFT GESTALTEN – Together shaping the Future (German language)

4) ECGBL12th European Conference on Games Based Learning 


When: 4 – 5 October 2018,

Where: SKEMA Business School, Sophia Antipolis, France

What’s it about:The European Conference on Games Based Learning was established 12 years ago. It has been held in Austria, Scotland, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Greece and Norway to mention only some of the countries who have hosted it. ECGBL is generally attended by participants from more than 40 countries and attracts an interesting combination of academic scholars, practitioners, game designers and individuals who are engaged in various aspects of games-based learning and serious games. Among other journals, the Electronic Journal of e-Learning publishes a special edition of the best papers presented at this conference.

The conference is also host to The 6th International Educational Games Competition.

6) Gamification Europe 2018 – From Player to Professional!

7) The 3rd Annual International GamiFIN conference


When: 8-10 April, 2019

Where: Levi, Finland

What it’s about: GamiFIN is a leading international conference for gamification research. GamiFIN is chaired by the professor of Gamification, Juho Hamari and gamification scholar Jonna Koivisto. The conference is organized by the Gamification Group and past keynotes have included notable scholars from the field of Gamification such as Sebastian Deterding, Richard Landers and T.L. Taylor.

GamiFIN 2019 conference welcomes 1) paper submissions, 2) posters, and 3) doctoral consortium applications from a wide array of topics around e.g. gamification, serious games, VR/AR/MR, eSports, streaming, free-to-play.

The GamiFIN conference will offer an entry to the Gamification Publication Track that can help authors develop their papers from the first manuscript version to the final journal paper and thus aim to increase the predictability and rigorousness of the publication process.
